Spike bank review — Bend s09
Bank what the spikes taught. Keep the mechanical gate. Refuse the absolutes.
<!-- hal:authoritative:yaml -->
Bank what the spikes taught. Hold each claim against the laws from sessions 06 to 08.
§I. Frame
Asr session 09 for Bend. Topic T8 Verification & AI ops. Ninth live fire; first week-5 row. Home: . Spike bank: , prior recon , a teammate , a teammate . Protocol: · Corpus: laws/NAMES (53), laws/LAWS.bend.
Session 06 walked the catalog triad. Session 07 named Catalog Emit and the names-only floor. Session 08 encoded mutants_skip_needs_reason as a teaching law. Today the unmarked row asks you to bank the spike findings against those laws — not to invent a tenth encode, not to reseat Bend as primary stack.
Host reminder: Bend CLI stays on tower or Bot-VM. This lesson reviews vault notes. Do not push rust-tops. Do not fund a new spike from class.
Done-criteria: bank what the spikes taught against the laws authored in #6 to #8.
§II. Spike Ledger (named technique)
Spike Ledger: list the banked notes and the one disposition they share.
| Note | Owner | Disposition |
|---|---|---|
2026-09-17-victortaelin-recon | banked recon | WATCH; optional tiny spike |
2026-09-19-bend2-incorporation | A teammate | WATCH + named disposable spike; reject primary-stack adopt |
2026-09-19-bend2-claim-qa | A teammate | FAIL on absolutes; COMPAT with a teammate |
2026-09-24-rust-tops-bend2-integration-v0 | A teammate | v0 encode track banked; Halos run gates; Asr encodes laws |
Spike DoD from incorporation §4 (install → guide → one trivial law → deliberate break fails closed → note one gap → file under ). That DoD is the same shape sessions 01 and 08 drilled. The bank did not flip to adopt on influencer framing ("don't read the impl").
Yagyu: Spike Ledger is a table, not a mood. Musashi: WATCH stays WATCH until a named host proves the gate.
§III. Claim Filter (named technique)
Claim Filter: keep the mechanical-gate core; refuse the absolutes.
From a teammate §1 + a teammate PASS/FAIL:
| Claim | Bank grade | Why it matters for laws |
|---|---|---|
| Models need a mechanical gate | PASS | Aligns with fail-closed / gates-not-writers |
| LAWS rhyme with AGENTS.md | PARTIAL | Rhyme for Bend-written programs; not fleet replace of Rust Halo prose |
| Don't read the final impl | FAIL | Checker covers stated laws only |
| Superior to Lean (factory) | FAIL | Category error; different jobs |
| Sloppy laws still performant | PARTIAL | Runtime claim ≠ correctness claim |
Chozanshi: if a claim says you can skip reading impl because proofs exist, then recall incompleteness (session 03) and Cover Bound (session 07); thus treat that claim as FAIL for Hedronite ops.
§IV. Law Map (named technique)
Law Map: pin each spike teaching to a catalog (or teaching) law from #6 to #8.
| Spike teaching | Law seat (s06–s08) | Pin |
|---|---|---|
| Green proof ≠ full product cover | Cover Bound / incompleteness checklist (s03, s07) | host / IO / @unsafe / renderer sit outside unless stated |
| Evidence must not be self-served | evidence_not_self_served in NAMES / LAWS.bend | oracle before impl; refuse FromImpl |
| Baseline before mutants | baseline_green_before_mutants | no mutant theater on a red tree |
| Mutant kill needs scar story | mutant_kill_without_scar | refuse kill-without-scar brag |
Bare #[mutants::skip] forbidden | teaching law mutants_skip_needs_reason (s08; not in NAMES yet) | Refuse on SkipNoReason{} |
| Names-only floor in flake check | Catalog Emit + bend-gate.sh names-only (s07) | CI can assert names without Bend on PATH |
NAMES still has 53 lines. Session 08's teaching law stays out of the catalog until a human runs Catalog Emit on host. Spike bank review does not insert it.
§V. Why this review seat
Bend2 at Asr exists so AI ops can encode protocol as fail-closed laws without pretending Bend is the shipping stack. Sessions 06 to 08 built the encode muscle. Session 09 banks the spike so that muscle stays pointed at rust-tops clauses, not at parallel-compute tourism or "don't read code" culture.
A teammate v0 sketch already states the split: Halos run gates; Asr encodes laws; directors plan and grade. This lesson is the grade pass over the bank. It does not open a product PR.
§VI. Done-criteria check
Say aloud without looking:
- Spike Ledger: incorporation + a teammate QA + recon + a teammate v0; disposition WATCH / experiment lane.
- Claim Filter: mechanical gate PASS; don't-read-impl and superior-to-Lean FAIL.
- Law Map: at least evidence / baseline / scar / skip-reason / Cover Bound pinned to spike teachings.
- Boundary: no catalog insert, no primary-stack adopt, no push.
§VII. Common mistakes
- Treating spike bank review as permission to adopt Bend as factory stack.
- Inserting
mutants_skip_needs_reasonintoNAMESfrom class. - Scoring success by influencer absolutes ("don't read impl").
- Confusing names-only floor green with full Bend proof on mesh PATH.
- Re-teaching session 08 encode as the whole lesson.
- Treating Nix flake schema (peer today) as the spike bank seat.
§VIII. Boundaries
- Not a new clause encode (session 08).
- Not Catalog Emit / regenerate (session 07).
- Not Halo mutants/CRAP grind on product code.
- Not Maghrib quiz×4.
- Not mesh PATH Bend on the lab Mac.
- Not Nix flake
devShell/checksbody (Asr Nix #19 peer). - Not primary-stack adoption of Bend.
§IX. Close
Sessions 06 to 08 built catalog read, emit, and one teaching encode. Session 09 banks the spike notes against those laws: keep the mechanical gate, refuse the absolutes, map gaps to named Refuse seats. Syllabus Topics #9 is the last numbered Bend row in the current spine; do not invent Phase 2 rows here.
